Happenings at the Ranch

Sorry I haven’t posted in a couple of days but you will understand and hopefully forgive me in just a minute.

I woke up on January 1st, with a toothache – yep, and it was a very hot tooth! I went diggin’ for my left over pain meds to try and get it under control until I could get to the Dentist (no if you don’t know about me and the Dentist you can read about it here).

I was able to get into the Dentist on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. In addition to the dental appointment, I had a primary care Dr appointment at 8:00AM and my Orthopaedic appointment at 3:00pm. So, I took a PTO day to get all of these appointments out of the way.

Well, my primary is concerned about my blood pressure and has added another medication to my prescription portfolio. Now, could the bp issue be the upcoming Dentist appointment? I think it could but I will see him in another four weeks to re-check. Well, I get to the Dentist office I must look like I’m terrified (it’s true, I was) because they were very nice and gave me the I feel sorry for you looks. Well, 2 hours later, I walk out sporting a temporary filling over a root canal in more pain than when I walked in (I forgot to take the second Tylenol 3 before going in) but the Dentist assured me that it would stop.

I got to the Ortho office still in pain (funny how a toothache makes all other pain trivial – really Dr. Kieffer, my knee doesn’t feel near as bad as it had.) from my recent root canal. The Dr. came in and started to twist and pull not only my good knee but the knee giving me issues – guess what? My tooth quit hurting because now my knee was alive! He kept going back to my “good” knee (the one he already fixed) and then back to my soon to be fixed knee. Conclusion, possible partial torn ACL, torn meniscus, and the x-ray shows a bone spur above the knee cap in the tendon. I am going for an MRI on the 13th and will follow-up with him on the 19th. Looks like I will have surgery shortly there after! UGH! But, I have to get it better SOONER than Later so that I can start my exercise program and get ready for Barrels this year.

The horses are staying as warm as can be expected since we now live in Antartica! We are in the middle of a huge freeze and it is supposed to get down to -5 tonight! Ice freezes faster than you can break it and the only thing we can do is break and remove all the ice and refill with water and keep this up. Looks like Sunday we will start to see a rise in temps with Wednesday getting up to 36 degrees – Man, that’s shorts weather!

It snowed last night and into this morning – I believe we have 3-5″ and now the wind is blowing making the wind chill in the negatives. Our little neighbor man stopped by today, always the same story, check hasn’t arrived, needs either food or money for Rx – I only had a $20.00 bill – I was saving for our Kerosene refill, but I gave it too him and he started to cry and keeps promising to pay us back – I told him to pay it forward – give it to someone else who needs it when he gets back on his feet and can help someone like we did for him and his wife. I haven’t told Bear but I know he will be okay with it – that’s just how he is – he has such a big heart.

I worked from home today and was hunkered down with Maestro – he slept in his chair all day, I kept covering him up with his blankie. Everytime he shifts the blankie falls off so I go and tuck it back around him.

Looking to go to the recycler this weekend with a load of scrap and aluminum. It’s not much but it’s $$ and anytime the $$ are coming my way instead of going out I’m all about capitolizing on the opportunity.

That’s about all that is happening at the Ranch right now – trying to stay warm.

Boy, what a way to start out the new year! I can relate to the dentist…my first goal, flossing my teeth, enough said.

Wow, what a year for you so far. Tooth issues are the worst, almost as bad as finger issues LOL, maybe. I sure hope things look up for you soon.
