I had to go to St. Louis this past week for some meetings for my company. One of my favorite shows is on the Food Network called Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The Episode called Food Done Right featured The Shaved Duck. I thought it would be pretty cool to try it out while in town.
I talked my good friend Carolyn (Hi Carolyn!) into joining me on this expedition. Not knowing what to expect. On Mondays, they are only open from 5-9, I told Carolyn we should get there early. I am glad we did. We arrived about 5:15 and they were already getting full! The inside is nice and cozy and you are greeted by all of the staff as you make your way to your table.
We were looking over the menu and the appetizers…..oh my, the appetizers. We just couldn’t figure out what to have but finally decided on the Walnut and Brown sugar encrusted bacon with Bleu Cheese and pears. This could have been DESSERT!
This appetizer was incredible and the ingredients worked so well together. Delish.
We decided to order a salad each and share an entree. I ordered the Cranberry, pinenut, goat cheese on fresh spring greens. The dressing was drizzled over the salad and it was a Cider Molassess viniagrette. It was so good. I wasn’t sure about the Cider Molasses viniagrette but I am now a convert. It was perfect balance to the salad.
Carolyn and I decided to share the Entree and agreed that the Flatbread pulled pork with apple, crispy bacon, BBQ onions, and Vermont white cheddar sounded pretty good. One word….YUM! This was by far one of the best flatbread pizza’s I have had. The pulled pork was tender well flavored. We were not able to finish it!
We were so full we could not even fathom dessert, but if you go, I would recommend the Walnut and Brown Sugar encrusted Bacon with Bleu Cheese and pears for Dessert!
So next time your in St. Louis, I recommend trying The Shaved Duck 2900 Virginia Ave., St. Louis, MO 63118. Be sure to get there early!
